After her studies of social sciences and economics, Marga Pröhl focused on theory and implementation of leadership training and the analysis of entrepreneurial behaviour in economy and administration of developed and developing countries.
She conducted extended research on management education in India, Germany and the USA, worked as assistant professor at the University of Osnabruck and took on a leading position at the United Nations (UNDP) for transregional projects.
From 1989 until 2004, she was head of the Bertelsmann Foundation's division of "State and Public Administration", responsible for the reform of public services in the administrative and educational field. She was also a member of the executive board of the foundation.
In 2001 she became an honorary professor at the "German University for Administrative Sciences Speyer".
From 2004 until 2007 she was Head of Division in the Department of Administrative Modernisation, Federal Ministry of the Interior, Germany. Her responsibilities were, among others, the international cooperation for administrative modernisation, particularly with the EU (EUPAN) and the OECD (Public Governance Committee), EU twinning activities, strategic management, impact of the demographic change on the public sector and civic engagement.
